Isle Verde

Welcome to Isle Verde. My supervisor Jenn has been going to this extremely poor Muslim community for a couple of years now to do prenatal visits and baby check ups on her days off from Mercy. Several of the ladies she has done prenatal’s in the past on have come to deliver at the clinic, and Martina, from my last post was one of these. Jenn texted me yesterday to see if I wanted to go with her, and see if we could find Martina and check to see how she and the baby were doing.
Well, I can honestly say that it was one of the best days in Davao yet! This place makes me feel SO alive! As you can see from the pictures the living conditions are pretty grim... but seriously... check out the grins on these kid’s faces! It was amazing to visit with several different families in the community who have some to Christ, and do a couple of prenatal's and baby check-up's. It really is so little that one does there, but the harvest is ready, and there are many coming to Christ through the ministries that go one through very practical medical care in the area, through different mission organizations.
Well the Lord led us practically right to the door where Martina was staying... she still had not made it back to her house after hemorrhaging at birth (I had trouble finding my footing on those pathways in the best of health... I can't imagine what it would be like if I was weak and tired!!). The place she was staying was right next door to a friend Jenn visit's every time she goes... so it worked out so perfectly! It was a blast to meet 5 of Martina's other 6 kids, and to see Abraham again. He was already a pound heavier... and only right around one week old! HUGE KID!
I also now have my first continuity. Her name is Jeanilyn. She is 18 and this is her first pregnancy. I met her in Isle Verde, and I did a prenatal check-up on her, and we talked a bit. I am really excited about this opportunity! She is already 7 months pregnant... so just a few more prenatal check-ups and then I will be delivering her baby before I even know it!
So, this has gotten a bit long... but I really wanted to share a bit of what the Lord has brought into my path these past few days. The opportunities are endless, and so is God's grace and love. Both go hand in hand, and both I am SO thankful for!
Isle Verde. Just another part of this crazy city I now call home!

Hi, Lois! I am loving your blog! I am attending Newlife in September and have been checking blogs to see what I'm REALLY in for. :) Thank you for your awesome pictures and encouraging (VERY REAL) description of life over there. Your heart is definitely showing in your writing and it is a blessing to read. You will be in our prayers and we prepare to come to your neck of the woods...or umm, jungle. :) Blessings and keep writing!
