WELL, Monday started out to be a very normal day. I got up a bit late, rushed around to grab a shower and some food, put on my "birthday shirt" and headed for the door. I was scheduled to work prenatally at the clinic... on my way out the door my plans changed, oh just a little bit!
So I am walking out the door, and I get a text that says that my continuity (someone I have specifically taken care of, and build a relationship with throughout her pregnancy) is in LABOUR!! So in stead of walking to the clinic on my 22nd birthday, I took a motorbike... and a good thing too!
I got there at like five to nine AM and Recy was just chillin on the couch. I started checking her in, and then "HELLO" her water broke and things just started happening like mad! I ran to get changed into scrubs, and when I got back, less than a minute later my supervisor was helping Recy take off her shorts... and low and behold... there was a little baby head already 5cm visible! By the time the shorts were off the baby was crowning... and well... lets just say, that at 9:12am, less then 20 minutes after I arrived at the clinic, a beautiful little girl named Claui officially had the same birthday as me!
Pretty great, unexpected birthday gift... I must say:D! Perfect birth, perfect little girl!
Funny thing was that not only was it Claui and my birthdays that we were celebrating in the birth room, but Monday was also Claui's aunt's birthday as well. Really a great day all around!
So then the rest of the morning was filled with postpartum care, and by 1pm I was home to grab some lunch quick before class. Krys (our director, teacher and friend) held our class at Blugre... this great little coffee shop, so we all got to drink yummies and eat oatmeal fudge bars while we played with a fake pelvis in public. Really great! Supper was a "surprise menu" dinner that the girls made for me... and it was amazing. Burgers with fruit salsa and pineapple on them... SO DELICIOUS. Then the evening ended with a dessert party at our apartment for all the girls of Newlife... and yep... it was pretty great... and I was pretty ready to go to bed after that!
So that was my BIRTHday... in a nutshell. Told some of you I would post about it... so here it is. And to all the other billions who mysteriously ALL have birthdays in March... a happy birthday to you! It really is a great month to be born!

Hey Lois,
My name is Pauline. I'm 21 years old, christian and a midwife student from the Netherlands. I was surfing on the internet when I came across the site of Newlife and your blog. Amazing! I just love it. Right now I'm in my second year of the study Midwifery. I'm going to school in Belgium.
I would really love it to be an intern in a foreign country. By the way I hope you can understand my english. I'm working on it :-). I'm also reading the blogs of your classmates, so that's also good for my english.
Well, I just wanted to say that I really like it to read your stories. I think it's awesome how God is involved in the work you do. And I hope one day I can come to Davao too as an midwife student or midwife.
greetings Pauline
from the Netherlands
