taxi pulls up... worried lady quickly jumps out...

...and then I see it. I bit of baby is making its way into the outside world, in the back of a taxi... right in front of the clinic, and right in front of me!
So this was not a dream, no, it was my reality this morning.

Taxi births are definitely not unheard of here... but they are few and far between, and ALWAYS eventful. This was a first for me to actually be the one to catch the baby, and it was great! Jonnah (the mom), did great, and was relatively relaxed despite her apparent circumstances. Let me tell you, it created a bit of a scene! There was quite the gathering of bystanders when all was said and done.

Anyways... not that catching a baby in a taxi would thrill everyone (I mean I am sure that the taxi driver was not thrilled:D)... but I think it is every midwife's dream to do things like this. Just imagine... you are half-way across the pacific ocean... a woman goes into precipitous labour... you don your gloves... and PRESTO, you are a hero! Wouldn't that be great...

Speaking of such... I happen to be jumping on a plain in about 10 hours... and well... we can only hope! Maybe this morning happened for a reason... to prepare me for something bigger an better...??? (I can dream at least!!)

These are pics of Jonnah, her new son... and me. The baby liked keeping his foot in my pocket... it was great. They were great. Thank you Jesus for these opportunities!
